20 years ago, Russian Vagonova trained Principal and Soloist dancers Shushanik Poghosyan and Aleksandr Khachaturov came to America after touring with the Cultural Opera and Ballet Theater of Armenia and leading in company roles such as Gayane Ballet, Carmen, Spartacus, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, Giselle and more. They performed across all the grand stages of the world in Moscow, Paris, Leningrad, Spain, Lebanon, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and so on until they came to the end of their tour in California where they decided to remain and make their new home. This may have been the end of their professional dancing careers; however, since then, they have been in the practice of coaching and patiently guiding students into becoming more than they initially thought possible of themselves as dancers. The name Shushan is an Armenian name that translates to the Lily flower in English. Shushan Dance Studio was created to give students as young as 3 years old up to adults curious, excited, wanted to further develop themselves or simply wanting to try something new the opportunity to do so. The studio takes a step-by-step, patient and careful approach in developing a dancer's body, technique, mechanics and soul all while enjoying the freedom of dance. Combining both athleticism and artistry, all students develop an enhanced awareness of their body and coordination of body movement with music. With the experience of transforming students of all levels and backgrounds into dancers for over 30 years, Shushan Dance Studio is a school of excellence in getting students up and dancing within just a few classes. Dance styles provided include a wide range of Cultural/Character/Folk dances such as Armenian, Spanish and Russian where dancers develop a deeper understanding of other cultures. Authentic, Russian-Vagonova style Ballet classes are offered in both group and private form lessons where dancers prepare for stage performances, major ballet competitions across the country and internationally or simply just to learn for fun. Competitive Dancesport International style Latin Ballroom classes are also offered in Private and group form where students can compete locally, nationally or internationally or simply learn just for fun. Other lessons include Salsa, Jazz, Contemporary and Modern. Our artistic and educational philosophy has proven one student after the other over the past three decades to develop confidence, discipline and mastery of mind and body coordination for all students.
Graduated from the Yerevan State Ballet Academy, Shushan Poghosyan has extensive experience in advanced classes in ballet dance and the Vaganova method. Noticed as a fine dancer during her student years, she has toured around the world including Lebanon, Russia, France, Germany and Spain. However, she didn't stop there! She continued her dance education and studied ballroom and cultural dances which she selflessly teaches to all her students.
Other than graduating from the Yerevan School of Choreography, Alexander taught classical ballet and stage acting at the same school. His interest in contemporary ballet led him to form his own company in Armenia where he could freely translate different musical languages including contemporary Armenian music into his creative and original pieces. He has performed all over the world and now combines teaching and choreography to build most of the studio's Choreographic works.

He has gone on to become a U.S. National Competitive Ballroom Champion along with countless winnings in the ballroom and ballet world. He has starred in lead roles in grand ballet performances including "Don Quixote" and has starred in several T.V shows such as ABC Family's "Bunheads". The list of achievements continue on and he says he wishes to help others to reach the same success.
